The Study of Communities, Involvement & Outreach and Linguistics (SoCIOLing) Laboratory was established in 2013. The SoCIOLing Lab aims to form a research collaboration which embraces the needs, goals, and outcomes of diverse language communities, with particular emphasis on the growing Hispanic population in the southeastern United States. In achieving this mission, the lab:
(i) conducts empirical and theoretical research which addresses current questions in an array of linguistic subfields and disciplines;
(ii) raises awareness of cultural and linguistic diversity while promoting the legitimacy and legacy of all language varieties;
(iii) fosters undergraduate and graduate research opportunities, with training in a variety of skills.
